Swimsuit Season
Summer will be upon us pretty soon on June 21st, so now is as good a time as any to talk about swimsuits and bikinis before summer is in our "rear view mirror." I will give you some pointers on the right type of swimsuit you should wear for your body style. Do not think for a moment, that you do not have the "right" body for a swimsuit. Everyone should be able to enjoy the summer, sunny beaches in nice fitting swimwear, regardless of body types.
Color Choices for Swimsuits
Before we go any further, let's talk about color. If you look in your closet, do you see mostly one color, for example red, black, white, or some other color instead of an array of all the fashion colors available? It could be that you subconsciously bought items in your favorite color, and unwittingly became focused on just that one color.
I can tell you that my favorite color is red, so I tend to have lots of red in my closet. You may too, if red is your favorite color -- if not maybe you have another color you tend to wear alot.
My point in bringing up color, is that your tendency towards having the same color in your closet could carry on to the choice of colors you prefer for your swimsuit or bikini. This can be a good or a bad thing. Good if this is your favorite color and looks good on you. Bad if you overdo it and do not introduce variety in your color selections.
When we talk about color for swimsuits and bikinis, a staple color that is safe for most everyone is black. As we all know, the color black tends to have a slimming effect, regardless of style. Please note here that I am speaking of colors now -- not styles. I'll discuss styles later.
Glamorous Swimsuits
Some of us may have a whim for the glamour of the 1950's style swimsuits, which I'm happy to let you know have made a comeback, categorized as "retro". The retro style swimsuits usually have halter tops and a square top thigh fit as shown in some of the pictures here.
Your body style is right to wear a swimsuit
Now lets talk about style, body shape and type. You may know somebody who has a figure that allows her to wear just about any type of swimsuit or bikini. Good for her! For others, there are many styles that fit your figure so you too can have your day in the sun!
If you have a long torso, a swimsuit with cutouts on each side will work well for you.
If you are large on top, halter top swimsuits, including the retro ones I mentioned previously will provide you support. Even if you are smaller on top, the design of the halter top will add some sexy cleavage!
If you are very tall with long legs, swimsuits with designs around the middle as well as swimsuits with horizontal designs, will bring your height down a bit. Even though I would wonder why you would want to do that -- but it is an option. Also a swimsuit with a cut-out torso will give you the effect of a bikini without actually being one!
As for the internal makings of swimsuits, there are padding, underwires, etc. to help in those areas that may need a little more depth or support.
Beautiful Bikinis
Even though I've talked mostly about swimsuits, I would like to discuss bikinis as well. Just like swimsuits, with black you cannot go wrong due to the slimming effect of the black color itself that I mentioned before.
I especially like the red bikini pictured below with the ties on both sides of the bottom. This bikini has a sexy look, without being so "out there." In other words, it has an appealiing sophisticated look about it that draws my attention.
I can say the same about the white bikini with the side ties. In addition to being sexy, the white color gives the overall look a nice, streamlined effect. Of course with this type bikini a slender body type would complement this outfit best.
How to pick the right bikini color
Just as black has a slimming effect, the white color has just the opposite. Who wants to look any larger than what they are? So be careful in choosing a white bikini. If you are slender, and in good physical shape, you should not have any problem weariing the white, or the red bikini shown here.
However, if the opposite is the case and you are curvy, you may want to stick with the darker colors. I know that black is pictured a lot here, but there are other fashionable dark colors available for both swimsuits and bikinis, for example dark blue or purple are choices to be considered as well.
Cover-ups
I would be amiss not to mention the sexy, lacy cover-ups that you can simply wear on top of your swimsuit or bikini. In fact, if you are not accustomed to wearing bikinis, you can give them a try, and wear the cover-up, knowing that you are wearing a sexy bikini underneath! There is a commerical that states "Only her hair dresser knows for sure." In this case, you will be the one who knows for sure what is really beneath your cover-up. Just imagine how adventurous you will probably feel, especially if you are exiting your norm, and trying something daringly different!
Accessories
Some of the same fashion tips for dresses, gowns, and other outer wear pertains to swimsuits and bikinis as well. For example, if you want to present a flatter looking stomach, or a more slender waist, adding a belt to a dress will sometimes do the trick. The same can be said for swimsuits. Just add a matching belt to your swimsuit and see what a difference the belt will make in your waistline. The wider the belt the better; however, you do not want to look like you are stuck in a year, long gone by, so for the present times, I would recommend a slender belt.
Be comfortable
An important consideration also is your comfort. If wearing the belt feels constricting to you in any way, then, by all means, dispense with the belt. I know there is a saying that beauty has its price, but it does not have to be at the price of your comfort. Now if by some chance, you are having a picture taken, it may be worthwhile to sustaiin the discomfort for just a few minutes until the picture is taken, before taking the belt off.
The back of the swimsuit can be just as sexy as the front. My favorite is the low back riding type that reveals a lot of the lower back. There are other interesting design effects, including the criss-cross design and the basic shoulder strap design.
Savor the beach wearing your swimsuit or bikini
With the few days of summer left, the important thing is to get out there and savor the beach, sand, and sun as the ladies are happily doing in the picture to the right.
Enjoy and don't forget the sunscreen!
